Feeling accomplished

It’s been a busy few days since I last blogged.

Hurricane Ike let us have Tia, Joel and Lily for a full week! Though sad that it caused lots of damage to many homes in the Galveston/Houston area, a positive definitely came from it for us. We loved having them here…it even felt like a mini-vacation for us. Sadly, though, we’re missing sweet Lily like crazy.

And it wasn’t just the 2-legged Perezs in our house. Duke, Lexi and the cat, Callie, came too. Now the dogs always come, but Callie joined them this time, and she hung out in the garage like she owned it. It was good, because Tinkerbell has officially become an outside cat. Accomplishment number 1.

On to bigger animal news. Bella has been sick for some time. I’ve diagnosed her with colitis, although the vet doesn’t know that yet. We’ve tried a variety of medication, special vet food and supplements, but still not much improvement. Her constantly needing to go outside has reverted me back to newborn-baby nights. It’s wearing me out! Between her and the cat having ringworm, we’ve been to the vet more in the past 2 months than we’ve been in probably the past few years. She’s probably going to have to have some kind of scope/biopsy procedure to determine the problem. I’m just procrastinating because the bank account is going to be really sad.

I think Dixie started feeling left out. I’ll spare you the details, but basically she created a sore from so much licking, and I just refused to take her in. So, being the resourceful Mom that I am, I got creative and put a diaper on her! Anything to stop the CONSTANT LICKING that was driving everyone crazy, and that was making it a lot worse. Luckily, Ava’s stage 4s fit her perfectly. After a few days of her being pretty mad at me, it worked, without a trip to the vet! Accomplishment number 2.

Question to self – Why haven’t I put Bella in diapers???

With company for a week and animals issues on top of that, you could only imagine what my house looks like. As Alex told Grandmama, “the clothes on the dryer almost touch the ceiling.” Thanks! Nothing like a stay-at-home mom miserably failing at impressing the mother-in-law! (I know you still love me, Donna!)

But, there is some truth in that statement. What started out as neat little stacks of each family member’s clothes about a week or so ago, has become just a gigantic pile of wrinkled laundry. And you’re wondering why it is that I just can’t put it up?

This brings me to Accomplishment number 3 – Closet/drawer cleaning!!!! I’ve been so overwhelmed with the amount of clothes and messes that Ava and Alex have, I just can’t add to it. I attribute it to the disorder that I have – frustrated perfectionism – a fellow blogger, Jordan, coined the term, and it means that you’re so obsessed with doing the task perfectly that you just won’t do it. My disorder always flares up this time of year. I need to organize the new stuff, decide what can be put in the attic, what to get from the attic, get rid of socks without the matching pair and pants that have basically just become a cute pair of capris. Yesterday, I went through bins that I had just basically been picking through every morning to clothe Ava and I pulled down all her 3-6 and 6-12 months clothes from the drawers and closet and organized them into bins for hopefully baby girl #3 to enjoy someday. (No, I’m not pregnant!)

At around 3 before going to pick up Alex at school yesterday, you would have thought that I had made absolutely no progress. Between toys, clothes and hangers you couldn’t even see the floor, but they were just organized piles in disguise. Sorry that I don’t have a picture to document the before and after but let’s just say it looks like a different room. Alex’s room is next.

So, where is the design update in all this? T-shirt sales on cafepress.com from my designs have been booming! Accomplishment number 4. Truly though, more than what I’m gaining from it, I’m just feeling so good about the election. My passion about the GOP winning is the real reason that I’ve created these designs, but it’s been so flattering and a helpful financial blessing.

But I am finding it hard to justify that all those hours in Photoshop will help pay for a 30-minute procedure on my dog’s rear.

Anyway, THANK YOU to everyone who’s bought a shirt or bumper sticker. I really appreciate your support, and I know John and Sarah do too! I just bought shirts with these designs. The top 2 for me, the chick one for Alex and the pigtails one for Ava.

Now, accomplishment number 5 has not been accomplished yet. But, no worries, it will happen next week.

Massive food consumption at the fair.

A corny dog, nachos, a turkey leg that makes you feel barbaric, cotton candy and a fried snickers – all in one day…

This might be my proudest one yet!

Yea for your accomplishments! I’m right there with ya on the food at the fair. Reading your list made my mouth water. mmmmm…..

Love it! Glad you could give us something good to read and maybe even inspire us to have some of our own accomplishments (although none of mine will include diapers on the dogs or nursing ring worms on kids or cats – and don’t forget when you share that ice cream cone with Dixie that her licker has been licking places you chose to cover up). I could probably clean out some closets and tear up some food with the carnies in downtown Dallas, though.

(p.s. Don’t forget my idea for the shirts.)

Stephanie, I have no idea what you’re talking about…sharing an ice cream cone with a DOG????

4 Donna September 24, 2008 at 3:52 pm

Yes, Allison, I DO love you!! I'm so proud of all your accomplishments…but I'd list them as: wonderful, supportive wife; loving, nuturing mother; exceptionally talented & precious daughter-in-law!!! I'm SO proud of you (even though "the laundry on the dryer almost touches the ceiling!"…at least it's clean, huh?!!)

Oh, I forgot – it’s the dog sharing the ice cream cone with you!!

I’m so sad I won’t be there to help you with accomplishment number 5! Joel, Lily, Lexi, Duke, Callie, and I had so much fun while at your crib…if only Ike had come a little later we could be eating corny dogs, nachos, turkey legs, etc. with y’all! Awww man!!

When are you all heading to the fair? I want to come!

I’ve been “fall” cleaning my house as well! Today, the kitchen. Yesterday a friend was telling me about fried snickers, something that I have never heard about….how do they fry them in TX?

9 Allison September 25, 2008 at 2:42 pm

Candice, I don’t know. It’s a mystery to me how it doesn’t melt, but it has a delicious sweet batter on it, and they top it off with chocolate syrup and powdered sugar. Totally sinful!

Jana, COME ON GIRL!!! We’ll be going a few times, and I’ll save a trip if you’ll come and go with us! Just tell me when.

Yeah for all your accomplishments! I LOVE the diaper! :) Amen to the “frustrated perfectionism”. And of course, as always, I love your creations…
